SF-based Two Degrees Food and DC-based Earth Starter have created a partnership to donate meals to children in need for every Nourishmat garden purchased.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2013
Two Degrees, Inc., the first buy-one give-one food company, and Earth Starter, a food empowerment company that teaches consumers how to grow their own food, have teamed up to provide meals to hungry kids across America. The partnership brings together two food-focused, social startups with a mission to give the gift of food.
Through Two Degrees’ partnership with Feeding America, Earth Starter will donate four meals to children in need for every Nourishmat purchased. The Nourishmat is an all-in-one modular garden mat that is laid on top of soil and is color-coded to teach users how to maximize herb and vegetable growth in small spaces. It includes seedballs, a crafty mix of compost, worm castings fertilizer, chili-powder, and non-GMO seeds for improved germination and optimal growth.
Two Degrees normally donates one meal for every gluten-free vegan snack bar they sell. Earth Starter has recently launched Nourishmat on Kickstarter in order to raise money to manufacture their mats in the United States.
Both companies have food-focused missions that aim to change the landscape of food education and philanthropy. Two Degrees focuses on childhood hunger, while Earth Starter focuses on providing fresh food to urban dwellers and others by teaching them how to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers using square foot gardening. Earth Starter has already placed mats at San Francisco City Hall as well as local school gardens in both San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
By joining forces, Two Degrees and Earth Starter will be able to reach a larger audience while each has a unique impact on hunger and food in the United States.
