Local entrepreneurs, creatives, students and leaders in the tech community will convene Saturday, April 19th at Maker House for a day long project centered on refocusing the Tucson community on innovation and action.

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) April 16, 2014

The Reboot Tucson Summit Series is a project put forward by local entrepreneurs, students and leaders in the tech community that intends to help refocus the Tucson community on innovation and action. Organized by Maker House and co-sponsored by the Sustainable City Project, Reboot Tucson aims to give local Tucsonans the ways and means to improve the city on their own, without waiting for governments or other entities to take the lead.

“A city, just like a computer, can get bogged down, slow, stuck with the status quo. Every once in awhile you need to reboot, restart and refocus,” says organizer Tony Ford.

Reboot Tucson is different than the average conference or workshop, as the focus is on action individuals can take immediately to improve Tucson, it’s neighborhoods and the lives of people who live here.

Reboot Tucson focuses on innovation in three key areas; economic development, environment and culture. To that end, the day’s activities will be broken out into three large group events.

1) Action talks – These TED style talks from local groups are limited to just 8 minutes and end with 3 actions attendees can take today to make Tucson better. Participants will leave with 30 things they can each do to improve the city.

2) Innovation workshop – This summit will feature a real-time 3D modeled design charrette where participants work together to create a 3D model of possible configurations of the Rio Nuevo convention center/hotel site. The charrette will be conducted in real time, on a 20 foot screen, using Google Earth and Google Sketchup as design tools.

3) Community build – Attendees will be constructing little free libraries, bike racks, and native flowering seed bombs. Attendees are encouraged to wear work clothes, bring ideas and be ready to participate.

Speakers will include representatives from the U of A student population, KXCI, BICAS, Startup Tucson, Sustainable City Project and other organizations promoting innovation and action in Tucson.
