Mason, Ohio (PRWEB) August 22, 2013
The Festivals of Mason (FOM) Board announced details for an expanded schedule of events and activities for the 2013 Heritage & Bicycle Festival. The annual one-day event will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, in a new location with expanded hours from 10 am until 10 pm. A full schedule of events, site map and activity information is available at http://www.festivalsofmason.com/heritage.
The event’s new location at the Mason Municipal Center and Mason Community Center complex provides even more activities, including a larger Kids Zone and Teen Zone, more food and entertainment offerings and evening fireworks. Local crafters will also be showcased inside the Mason Community Center at the ShopLocal event. The complex includes more lawn areas, better parking, and room for larger attractions.
“It is our vision to ensure that the Heritage & Bicycle Festival is a premier event that brings together our community with a common purpose of showcasing and celebrating Mason,” said Don Prince, former Mayor of Mason and a board member for the Festivals of Mason. “The new location provides more space for planning larger events in the future, including the celebration the City of Mason’s bicentennial in 2015 and holding the event in September helps ensure more families are in town and enables Mason City Schools to help further increase awareness of the event.”
New Parade Route
Already well known as one of the area’s largest parades, the route will be reversed from past years, beginning at 10am at the plaza, traveling east on Main Street, turning south onto Mason-Montgomery and entering the Municipal Complex at Lakeside where it will conclude at the west parking lot of William Mason High School. Opening ceremonies and the crowning of the Little Miss Heritage pageant winner will take place immediately after the parade. Participants in the parade are encouraged to include decorated or unique bicycles as part of their entry in honor of Bicycle Days, which was the name of the festival during the 1970s. Parade applications are available at http://www.festivalsofmason.com/pdfs/heritage/2013/2013paradeinstructions-web.pdf.
Extended Hours and a Booming Finale
This year’s festival has been extended into the evening hours, concluding at 10 pm. And the event will wrap up with a fireworks show beginning at approximately 9:40 pm, provided by Mason’s own Prestige Fireworks. There will be a great view of the show from the lawn in front of the high school, where the main stage will be located for the event.
Local RockStars in the Making, Foot Stomping Country, and The Fab Four
The entertainment lineup will light up the stage with a wide variety of sounds. Mason’s School of Rock will perform classic and modern rock favorites. The Danny Frazier Band will have the festival jumping with a pop country set, and our closing act is straight from Chicago (er, Liverpool). It’s BritBeat, a nationally-recognized Beatles tribute band that will take you back to 1964 and through the years with a spot-on recreation of the best selling band of all time. So, bring a blanket and grab a piece of lawn by the stage and let the show begin. You know all the words. So, now we want to hear Mason sing along with the band. Other stage performers include western swing band Laura Hazelbaker & The BuckeyeRoos, the talented dancers of Mason Dance Center, and Mason Community Band.
Juggling, Dancing, Tumbling, and Soaring
An exciting array of activities and performances await you at the Heritage Festival. Cincinnati Circus Company will have a 26-foot high trapeze where you’ll see thrilling aerial performances, plus you can hook to the safety line and give it a try yourself, complete with instruction from the pros. And there will be strolling jugglers, stilt walkers, fire eaters, and magicians to bring you the excitement of the big top. For another high-flying thrill, take a 150-foot ride on a zip line. For down to earth fun, there will be bounce houses, obstacle courses, climbing walls, bungee jumpers and wacky inflatable pony rides. And what festival would be complete without a host of midway games?
Teen Zone
A special area will be dedicated to teens, where they can dance to a live DJ, enjoy carnival games and feats of skill, get their pic made at fun photo booths, and grab a delicious snack or refreshment in a place all their own.
Kid Zone
Kids Zone is just the spot for little guys and girls, with games, face painters, fun crafts, a cartoonist, balloon artists, a petting zoo, and bounce houses. Plus, this year we feature two brand new things they’ll love. First there’s Touch- a-Truck, where they can see and touch big rigs and vehicles of all shapes and sizes. Plus, they can meet the folks who drive them and find out about their jobs. There will even be military vehicles there to learn about. Another new feature of Kid’s Zone is the Home Depot Backyard Wiffle Ball Field. Kids can step up and have a swing at knocking one out of the park. Batter up.
Great Food and Treats
There will be plenty of local eateries and other specialty vendors to tickle your taste buds. The festival will feature All-American classics, international goodies, plus plenty of sweet surprises, too.
If your business is interested in providing food or beverage at the event, please contact us via the website to download and submit an application. A limited number of food vendor slots are still available. If you’d like to call with inquiries, please contact 513.260.6503.
Festival admission is free and the event is open to all ages. Free public parking will be available at selected William Mason High School lots and Corwin Nixon Park. Wristbands ride/activity tickets will be on sale at the event for $5.00 per person and may be used for all ages. Some activities are age or height/weight limited.
