Joan Rivers CNN
Has Been Optimized

For decades, comedienne Joan Rivers has ripped people to shreds for their looks, clothing, weight and more.

However, Rivers recently got offended when CNN host Fredricka Whitfield questioned her about her new book Diary of a Mad Diva (video below).

Whitfield asked Rivers about joking over Casey Anthony's dead baby and the late Princess Diana in the book.

"Life is very hard, and if you can make a joke to make something easier and funny, do it," replied Rivers.

Rivers also claimed that she was helping people whose lives have been "hell" with her humor, but didn't mention calling Kim Kardashian's baby North West "ugly" in her book, noted RealityTVMagazine.com.

Whitfield asked Rivers about wearing a fur on the cover of her book, which offends animal rights groups such as PETA.

Rivers suddenly turned humorless, and stated, “This whole interview is becoming an offensive interview. Are you wearing leather shoes? Then shut up!”

“I’m going," the angry comic protested. "Really, I’m going. All you’ve done is negative. I’ve made people laugh for fifty years, I am put on earth to make people laugh! My book is funny! I wear fur that was killed 15 years ago! I work for animal rights! Stop it with this ‘And you do this, and you’re mean, and you do that.’ You are not the person to interview a person who does humor!”

Later, Rivers said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: "The CNN interviewer was a news reporter and not an entertainment reporter. She did not seem to understand we were talking about a comedy book and not the transcripts from the Nuremberg Trial. Every question was an accusatory one designed to put me on the defensive. She seemed to miss the point that "Diary of a Mad Diva" is simply a very funny book and as Winston Churchill said, if you can make one person laugh, even for a minute, it's like giving them a little vacation."
