160 Communities Come Together to Donate 50,000 Pounds of Clothing

Greenbelt, MD (PRWEB) June 10, 2014

June 10, 2014 -- The Bozzuto Group, a Greenbelt, MD-based real estate services company, announced today that their retail donation drive, "FwdYourFashion," set a Goodwill® northeast regional record for community donations.

In honor of Earth Month, more than 160 Bozzuto apartment communities partnered with Repax, ZipCar, and Zippy Shell to give back and encourage a strong sense of community. From April 7 to April 19, each Bozzuto community was transformed into a Goodwill® clothing donation point, accepting gently used or new clothing, shoes and accessories to help forward fashion and make the planet become a better place. After 13 days of generous outpouring from residents, employees, and friends of the Bozzuto communities from New England to Virginia, Goodwill® received more than 50,000 pounds of donated clothing. Not only did this donation benefit those in need, but also saved these items from creating unneeded waste in local landfills.

“We’re extremely grateful for the incredible investment of time, effort and resources that The Bozzuto Group, Repax, ZipCar and Zippy Shell provided us during this enormous donation drive,” said Brendan Hurley, chief marketing officer for Goodwill of Greater Washington. “The monetary value of the donations collected in the Washington, DC region alone translates into almost 14,000 hours of free job training for people with disabilities and disadvantages! That is truly impactful."

"The FWDYourFashion campaign was designed to share ideas, inspire passion, encourage a stronger sense of community and, ultimately, make the planet a better place, starting with those who need it most. We are enormously proud of this accomplishment, but also of the spirit, energy, and integrity displayed by our residents, team and partners," said Peter Zadoretzky, sustainability project manager at The Bozzuto Group. "Sustainable business practices dictate our approach to every project, from start to finish. From developing LEED-certified buildings, implementing recycling programs, to installing energy efficient appliances and electric vehicle charging stations, all of the Bozzuto communities work to promote green initiatives for sustainable living."

The FwdYourFashion donation campaign concluded with an event at the Monroe Street Market Arts Walk on Saturday, April 26. The event featured trunk shows, a fashion show, music, food, drinks, prizes and giveaways. The event generated buzz on multiple social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, and many local blogs. Over 590 Tweets contained the event hashtag #FwdYourFashion, with 237 re-tweets, and more than 95 photos on Instagram. The hashtag reached 106,690 Twitter accounts and saw 1,644,411 impressions.

Located at the Brookland-CUA metro station in Washington, D.C., Monroe Street Market consists of three buildings, Brookland Works, Portland Flats and Cornerstone, encompassing approximately 720 residences, 45 townhomes, 83,000 square feet of street-level retail, 15,000 square feet of artist studio space, a 3,000 square-foot community arts center, and 850 parking spaces.

In fall 2013, Monroe Street Market announced Barnes & Noble @ Catholic University as the anchor retailer for the development, which will be located in the Cornerstone Building. Other retailers include Brookland Pint, a 4,200-square-foot restaurant owned by the team behind Meridian Pint and Smoke & Barrel, Busboys and Poets, &pizza, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, The Bike Rack, and Filter Coffeeshop. A weekly farmers market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., now through November 22, 2014. Operated by Lydia’s Fields, a local farm dedicated to growing organic produce, the market will feature 10-20 regional farmers and food producers.

Cornerstone, the vibrant hub of the $200 million project, has recently commenced leasing and will house the majority of Monroe Street Market’s amenities as well as 310 apartment residences. The building will have a “contemporary eclectic” feel, accented by natural reclaimed woods, metals, stone, and traditional touches throughout the residences and the amenity spaces.

Residents will enjoy a well-appointed lobby with grand fireplace and resident concierge; an e-Café with iMac and PC computers; expansive resident lounge with an indoor-outdoor fireplace, demonstration kitchen, billiards, three televisions and ample seating; outdoor lounges with grills, seating, and outdoor televisions alongside lush, landscaped courtyards; resort-style, infinity-edge pool with sundeck including bar, grill areas and chaise lounges; an outdoor public square, O’Connell Plaza, perfect for enjoying food and drink from on-site restaurants; and a state-of-the-art fitness center with cardio theatre, yoga studio, and strength and circuit training equipment.

Monroe Street Market’s leasing office is now open at 701 Monroe Street NE, Washington, D.C., 20017. For more information, visit http://www.monroestreetmarket.com or call (866) 339-1478.
