Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a biotechnology firm that provides DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, announced today that NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), has received training on DNA authentication as part of its effort to assess the latest ideas and technologies related to counterfeit risk mitigation.
JPL also intends to include information about SigNature® DNA marking, including the CPA Program, as part of its influential Counterfeit Awareness Training Program. The latter has the participation of all major NASA facilities and many of its largest suppliers.
APDN's CPA Program empowers end-users to leverage the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) initiative which requires SigNature DNA marking on certain high-reliability components. Over one half-million parts have been marked, with 30 companies participating, 14 of them original equipment or component manufacturers, prime defense contractors, or authorized distributors.
JPL, managed by the California Institute of Technology, has been a seminal force in space exploration, and its supply chain encompasses many of the most critical aerospace suppliers.
America's first satellite, Explorer 1, which launched in 1958, was created at JPL. The lab later sent the first robotic craft to the moon and out across the solar system, reconnoitering all of the planets.
JPL manages such current missions as the Mars Curiosity rover, Juno to Jupiter, Dawn to Vesta and Ceres, and the Spitzer Space Telescope. Later this year it will launch three new Earth orbiting missions – RapidScat, Orbiting Carbon Observatory 2 and the Soil Moisture Active Passive mission.
