Record-setting events at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, St. Joseph Health Center in Warren and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center netted more than 19,000 pounds of paper for recycling and a Green Award.
Youngstown, Ohio (PRWEB) May 02, 2014
Community shredding events held in conjunction with Earth Week set a record for paper collection at Humility of Mary Health Partners, and netted the organization a “Green Award” from Cintas Corp.
Cintas shredded all of the documents collected during the HMHP shredding events, which took place April 24 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center in Boardman, and April 25 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Some 12,450 pounds of paper were collected at St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth Boardman health centers and another 7,000 pounds was collected at St. Elizabeth Health Center, reports Matthew R. Waggle, HMHP regional director of environmental services.
“We yielded an unprecedented amount of volume – 19,450 pounds. That’s almost 10 tons of paper in two days!” Waggle says.
Two years ago during a similar event, HMHP collected half as much – 5.42 tons of paper.
According to the Green Award that Cintas presented to HMHP following the shredding events, recycling the paper collected this year will save 165 trees, more than 68,000 gallons of water, 19 barrels of oil and 29 cubic yards of landfill space.
HMHP holds community paper shredding events every year during Earth Week.
