Earth Day is April 22, and King Kullen is offering tips on how to take action.

Bethpage, NY (PRWEB) April 21, 2014

For Earth Day, which takes place April 22, King Kullen is giving its customers suggestions for giving back to the environment and helping out by offering reusable shopping bags.

Spring is a time of rebirth and growth in nature, and this year, King Kullen is encouraging customers to celebrate Mother Nature’s gifts. There are a variety of things people can do to support the environment in their very own backyard or garden.

Planting wildflowers is a great way to bring color and greenery to the home. Plants that are from the local area especially thrive, so in gardening, use plants found locally. Also, bring nature into the garden by planting bushes that attract butterflies. Another great way to support the environment is by planting an organic vegetable garden. Check out King Kullen’s floral department for seeds, planting supplies and gardening information.

King Kullen is also currently helping their customers find more ways to conserve by offering reusable grocery bags. When customers purchase these bags, they can reuse them again and again to reduce plastic bag waste.

King Kullen encourages its customers to recycle in traditional and non-traditional ways. Bottle redemption is offered at all stores, but what about some less traditional options?·     Recycle glass jelly and sauce jars to hold small toys, hair ties or coins.
·     Many families with young children have tons of broken crayons. Remove the paper from all of the broken crayons, and snap into smaller pieces. Put the pieces in a heatproof silicone mold at a low temperature for about 10 minutes. Cool, and now they will be fun shaped crayons in interesting shapes and color combinations.
·     Make a bird feeder out of an empty milk or orange juice carton – cut a hole for birdseed in the front of one side (starting about an inch from the bottom), fill with birdseed and hang from a tree with ribbon.

On Saturday, April 26, King Kullen’s Bridgehampton location will be participating in the Town of Southampton’s “A Greener Southampton – the Solution is in the Bag.” From 10 a.m. to noon, shoppers will be encouraged to sign a pledge to reduce, reuse and recycle their plastic bags with the goal of reducing single use plastic bags, keeping them out of our environment and landfills. There will also be giveaways and activities for children at the event.
