Over the past six years, Earth Advantage has trained the greatest concentration of real estate professionals in the nation through our Earth Advantage® Broker program. To date, nearly 1,000 real estate brokers in the greater Portland, Oregon area and 375 brokers in nine additional states have been trained to become an EA Broker.

In 2007, Earth Advantage created a real estate professional course (formerly known as Sustainable Training for Accredited Real Estate Professionals or S.T.A.R.) focused on green homes in the wake of the Vancouver Valuation Summit. Now, six years later with nearly 1,400 trained professionals across ten states, Earth Advantage is launching a full accreditation for real estate professionals to provide them with a competitive edge in communicating the benefits of green homes in their market. Executive Director of Earth Advantage, David Heslam, said, “We listened to our professionals and responded to the market demand for more knowledge. This accreditation will allow brokers and agents across the country, beginning with Oregon, to stay up to date on the latest building science and sustainable housing market dynamics while gaining a rigorous professional designation.”
Due to the combination of the rising number of green homes, and demand from real estate professionals for more continuing education around home energy efficiency, Earth Advantage is now making EA Broker a formal accreditation. In order to retain the designation of Earth Advantage Broker, professionals will now be required to maintain continuing education credits (every two years) with renewals starting in January 2015. Theresa St. Martin an EA Broker at Windemere in Portland, Oregon said of the new accreditation, “Continuing Education classes will help brokers keep up connection to their clients by providing fresh information and strengthening our 'expert' status. This is a valuable tool for creating conversation topics to 'stay in touch'.”
The goal of the accreditation is to provide real estate professionals with more information on the rapidly growing high performance home market. In 2014, Earth Advantage will be launching a series of live continuing education courses in Portland, OR. These continuing education courses will be available to a national audience online throughout the coming year. Earth Advantage will also be working to approve providers of other real estate sustainability courses from across the country to support the accreditation and is pleased to announce SEEC’s School of Green Real Estate as one of their first providers.
