We’ve all seen or at least heard of Armageddon, the tantalizing 1998 blockbuster starring Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler. It’s your typical world-is-about-to-end-unless-big-name-superstar-saves-the-day kind of movie. Willis plays Harry Stamper, the leader of a misfit team of deep core oil drillers recruited to become astronauts in a week, blast off into space and land on an asteroid heading for Earth. Once all of those seemingly “simple tasks” are achieved, they must drill 800 feet into the core (the main ingredient of which is one of the hardest elements man has ever seen) and plant explosives inside, to split the planet-killing rock in half, preventing it from impacting Earth -- therefore saving the world.
